piCture pOlish: Voodoo

Image

I received Picture Polish Voodoo back in September, from a lovely lady in my birthday swap group on Facebook.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you want to look at it), I have so much polish that this is the first time I have tried it!

Voodoo is a redish/brown polish with a golden shimmer in it. The colour is quite nice, and the shimmer is decently strong, as in I can see the shimmer even in my dimly lit living room, where I can’t usually see the details of a polish. The formula was just okay; it was thick, but definitely workable. I find the smell strong, and so did a friend of mine, but I stopped noticing it after a couple of nails.

The pictures below (shown in a couple of different types of lighting to show the differences) show 3 thin coats of polish and 1 coat of HK Girl top coat (my fave!). Please excuse the pictures… I am relatively new to this, and while I can take amazing pictures of other things, I can’t seem to get awesome pictures of my nails! So I did my best 🙂 (Also, my cuticles and cleanup techniques suck! ..working on it!)

Here is a close up picture to show the lovely shimmer within the polish.

Influenster Mystery Brand Vox Box Reveal – Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser

A few weeks ago I received a surprise package in the mail from Influenster. You can imagine my surprise when I received this package, seeing as a few days before I had filled out the qualifying survey and was told I did not qualify! But low and behold, they were waiting for me at my door. I received three sample bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and split-end serum in bottles that were simply labelled with what they were and “L’Oreal Canada” (which owns 25 beauty brands), but no brand name. My task was to try out the products and try to figure out what this Mystery Brand could possibly be.

Technically, I should be making two blog posts – one for when I received the mystery products, and one for when I received the full-sized products in the reveal. However, I was a bit late in testing the mystery products because I was trying to figure out if they contained any sort of strawberry or strawberry extracts in the ingredients as I have a severe allergy. My friend and I both contacted Influenster via multiple forms of social media explaining the allergy and asking for a simple yes or no, but they never got back to me. You’d think they would be more concerned, seeing as it would be their butts on the line if anything happened to me because the ingredients were not included on the products. But I let it slide.

Eventually, I got sick of waiting. I decided to take a shower and test out the products and took precautions to make sure that if, by chance, the products did contain anything that could set off my allergies, I would have help right away.

Here we go:

Image

Pictured below were the samples in the Mystery Brand box I received. Simply labelled with what product they were (Shampoo, Conditioner, or Split-End Serum), and that they came from one of the 25 brands within the L’Oreal Canada brand.

Image

My first impressions were good ones. My hair felt clean and shiny, and most importantly it felt healthy. It did not feel weighed down at all. I usually can’t use conditioner because it makes my hair greasy within a couple of hours of showering, but I didn’t have that problem with this conditioner. It made my hair feel soft and not once did I feel like my hair was greasy.

The task at hand was to figure out what the brand could possibly be. I wasn’t sure, but a good friend of mine (you can check out her blog here), gave a good guess and I decided that I liked her guess and that she was probably right.

Here is what we decided it might be:

Image

We made this decision because we knew that the mystery brand contained curuapu butter and Phyto-Keratin complex, both of which were being advertised by Garnier Canada for their new product line. So, after doing some research, common sense told us that this likely was the Mystery Brand! I was super excited, because I love Garnier products.

A week or so later, I received a HUGE (and pretty heavy) box at my doorstep that came from Garnier Canada! Yay! I was expecting maybe one or two full-sized products, but not THIS!

I apologize for the photo quality of the first picture! I took it at night time with dim lights and my iPhone camera, which isn’t so awesome. Here is the gigantic box full of the products that I received:

So exciting! Here are some close up pictures:

So now it’s time for me to give my final impressions on the products.

I’ve been using these products exclusively now since I received the mystery box, and my hair is loving them. I will share a dirty little secret with you: I had a few days where I was very ill, and I spent most of those days sleeping and showers were not part of the routine for that time. As gross as that is, after 3 days without washing my hair after having used these products in my previous wash, my hair still felt clean. I was surprised, because usually my hair feels nasty after only a day, and after only a few hours when I have used a conditioning product. But surprisingly, three days later, my hair was still soft, clean, silky, and did not feel weighed down. That is a big deal for me! I have serious problems with it comes to my hair so this felt awesome.

Well, I think that’s about it! Did you receive these voxboxes from Influenster and Garnier Canada? What were YOUR opinions on the products?

Sally Hansen VoxBox!

Evening all!

About a month ago, I received an e-mail from Influenster saying that I had been selected for the Sally Hansen VoxBox! This was going to be my first Voxbox and I was super excited to receive it. Soon after receiving my e-mail (like, the day after!), I received the box and it contained 3 Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Polishes. These three polishes included:

  • Pat on the Black (a dark deep purple crelly-ish colour)
    Image
    Image
  • Red My Lips (a basic red colour)
    Image
    Image
  • Jaded (an seafoam green/blue colour)
    Image

Overall, these polishes worked well, especially for being a drugstore brand polish. Pat on the Black and Red my Lips were both two coaters, however, Jaded took more like 4-5 coats to become an opaque colour.  What I like about these Sally Hansen colours is that they have 7 benefits in one bottle, and I really enjoy the shape of the brush, I find that it’s easier to apply with this new brush.

Here’s some info directly from the Sally Hansen website providing some information on the polishes:

Image

I find that these polishes do have quite the shine to them, but I wouldn’t call it a “gel shine” that Sally Hansen claims they have.  However, for being a drugstore brand, they really do a good job. I can definitely pull these off without a topcoat and still have the look of a top coat. I personally chose to put a top coat on some fingers to prevent chips and tip wear. I left some fingers without top coat to see (Note: it did chip after day 2 without topcoat and 3 days with topcoat). I enjoyed that these polishes dried relatively fast and they were dry to the touch after a maximum of five minutes – so this would make them good if you want to do a quick manicure and you don’t have much time to get them done.

Here’s a cute mani I did with “Jaded”. Please excuse the mess, I’m bad at this, LOL

Hello there! I hope you are all doing well.

I realize that it’s been about four months since I’ve blogged – I’ve been really busy with school. I can’t promise I’ll be here very often, but come April I will blog more! I realize I have next to no followers, but hey, perhaps I’ll fix that later on ;).

It’s COLD outside! Today in London it was -41. For comparison, in the town of “The North Pole”, in Nunavut, Canada, it was -42. In the town of “North Pole”, Alaska, it was -12. IT’S COLDER HERE THAN THE NORTH POLE. (Yes, I realize neither of these places are the real Terrestrial North Pole, but still!).

Anyways, I just wanted to make a quick post. When I get back to blogging I have SO many ideas for posts about beauty boxes, nail polish, my life, and of course CATS! But for now, I will just share with you some lovely pictures of my cats from Christmas…

Here is Gypsy under the Christmas tree:

Here is Gypsy and Jinx together under the tree, spending quality “sister” time together:Image

And here is a picture of the snow. Except this picture was at the end of November and it’s not at all what we’re experiencing right now (the snow is up to my knees). I just thought this was a pretty picture!

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and that you were filled with love, and possibly polish!

Cheers,

Taylor

Just checking up

Pahlish Lady Adelaide Duo

Good evening ladies (and possibly gentlemen!)

I wanted to share with you an awesome prize that I won from my favourite indie brand “Pahlish”. I entered the contest through sharing through the facebook page, and I got lucky with one of her prizes and won the “Lady Adelaide Duo”! This duo included two polishes: “Ideas of Things” and “Colder Than a Wave”.

I apologize the pictures are not perfect. I am new at this and still getting used to how to take the best picture for swatching and showing the best colour in the polishes. Here are my swatches…

Image

The gray/blue/silver polish on the left is “Ideas of Things” and the glitter is “Colder Than a Wave”

Image

Please excuse the pre-cleanup photos. I was so excited when I received the prize that I had to take pictures as soon as I could to share with the ladies on my polish group on facebook! I plan on uploading better photos to this post when I redo my nails with these two polishes!

xoxo,

Taylor

Rainbow Honey Summer of 199X Part 1

Good afternoon, all, and happy Sunday!

I am writing this post to share with you another amazing birthday gift I received from one of the ladies in my birthday group. This time I received the Rainbow Honey “Summer of 199X Part 1” collection mini set, and I could not be more excited! I have never owned or used a Rainbow Honey before and so this is very exciting for me. This birthday group has been a wonderful way for me to get to try all sorts of new brands that I always wanted to but never had a chance to! I will post pictures of the gift here, and on another blog post I will do some swatches!

Some of the gifts from my Birthday Group!

Image

So earlier I posted about all the birthday gifts I received from 5 of the 11 girls in my birthday group, and I wanted to share with you all of my gifts! Here are the photos:

Image

Look at all that stuff! How sweet are these girls?! Here I was expecting one or two polishes per girls, tops, and I receive all this? Let me tell you, I was having an awful day when I received all this, and I can’t even tell you how much better this stuff made my day…

Image

Image

I received six polishes from my ISO list:

  • A-England Saint. George
  • Essie Sexy Divide
  • Crows Toes Absolum – Your Potions Master
  • China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy
  • Gosh Blue Monday
  • MDJ ColorBlends Holographic “Cascading Holo Top Coat” #211

The A-England, Crows Toes, MDJ ColorBlends, and Gosh brands are all brand new to me, I have never tried them, so I am super excited. The China Glaze and the Essie are both colours that I have been swooning over, so I am super pumped to finally have them. I swatched the A-England on a couple of nails and fell in love with the formula instantly, but haven’t done a full mani yet. When I do full manis with all of these polishes, I will be sure to post them for you!

Of course, as you can see from the pictures, this is not the only stuff I received! There was so much more..

Image

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Lust” (the purple)
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Binge” (the blue)

I have used an Urban Decay shadow before, but have never exclusively used their makeup products. I have heard great things though, and so my ISO list was full of UD products. I swatched these two liners on my wrist, and they were there, without fading, the entire day. I am going to wear one of them to my first day of class tomorrow and I will post pictures later on. 🙂

Image

  • ELF professional concealer brush (to use to clean up my manis :))
  • A glass nail file (woo! I’ve only ever used the crappy dollar store ones, so pumped to have a good quality file, now!)
  • Purple striping tape
  • A PUEEN stamping plate “Pueen25”

I am brand new to stamping, this plate will be my very first, and I am excited to try it out for the first time. I am going to test this out soon – I will have to search tutorials.

Image

Two beautiful pieces of jewelry that I am pumped to wear! The ring broke, but it’s easy enough for me to glue back on 🙂 HOW CUTE IS THAT FOX NECKLACE? Ahh ❤

Image

And finally a lip balm, cuticle balm, and some samples of stuff that these girls got head on for my tastes.

  • Sweet Tips Lips lip balm in “Pina Colada”
  • Sweet Tips Lips cuticle balm in “Tahitian Vanilla”
  • Hard Candy Sheer Envy face primer
  • Hard Candy eye shadow primer
  • Smashbox Photo Finish foundation primer
  • Bumble and Bumble super rich shampoo and conditioner
  • Agave healing oil treatment

So as you can see, I received a LOT of awesome polish and beauty (and other stuff!) items from five of these wonderful ladies. I can’t believe that I have another SIX ladies who I still get to receive packages from throughout the month! I am super pumped!

I will post swatches and reviews of all these items as I use them 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Happy September!

HAPPY SEPTEMBER!

Happy Holiday Monday to all of you folks out there reading this! With September upon us, we are heading into the fantastic season that is fall! With school starting tomorrow, fair season upon us, and cooler weather and beautiful scenery, September is one of my favourite months of the year (of course it helps that my birthday falls during September ;)). I don’t know about all of you, but I am looking forward to getting back into gear and getting stuff accomplished. After being sick for so long, and being out of school for nine months, I am finally on my way back to complete the second semester of my program and could not be more excited. I have been sitting around doing nothing since January after I got sick, and I am ready to get up and be back to doing things!

I wrote this post, actually, to share with you some amazing birthday gifts I received from a group I’m in on facebook with 11 other girls. This group is a birthday group and each girl gets a month (usually the one their birthday falls in), and the 11 other girls in the group send her gifts off of her wish list as well as other awesome items. So far I have received gifts from five girls, and have been overwhelmed with how amazing these gifts have been! I will be back on later today to share pics with you. 😉

Happy September

Meet my (Fur)babies!

Since I have made it quite clear to you that you will be seeing a lot of my kitties in my blog, I figured it was appropriate for me to properly introduce you to my two beautiful furbabies.

Image

On the left, you are seeing a picture of my first baby, whom my boyfriend named “Gypsy”, but she more commonly goes by “Gypsy-cat”. I personally wanted to name her “Indigo” or “Willow” but after her being here since March, the name really does suit her. We adopted her on March 30th, 2013, and she came home with us that very same day. She was born (estimated by the shelter), on November 5th, 2012, which would mean she will be 10 months old next week!

On the right, you are seeing “Jinx” who also has gotten to compound of “Jinxy-Cat”. We adopted Jinx last week on August 22nd, 2013. Jinx estimated birth date (as given by the shelter) is May 27th, 2013, which would put her at 4 months old as of yesterday. Once again, “Jinx” wasn’t my name choice, and it just doesn’t feel like her name to me, yet, but I assume it will become exactly who she is before I know it, just like Gypsy-cat. 🙂 (You can’t say he didn’t pick unique names, that’s for sure!).

When we brought Gypsy-cat home, she quickly became our princess. My boyfriend had never had a pet before in his life, and he fell in love with her in a matter of hours. You can’t keep him away from her now (cutest thing ever, if I do say so myself). When we brought Jinx home, Gypsy did NOT like it, but in a matter of a couple of days they were playing and became best friends (thank goodness!).

If you ever consider adopting a cat (or any other animal), please keep in mind the quote “Adopt, don’t shop!” Shelters and rescues are finding themselves swamped and over-crowded right now because of over-breeding in the pet population from pets who are not spayed and neutered. These shelters need your help in order to keep taking in new strays who need their help… Please consider this when you consider getting a pet of your very own. The love from shelter animals is absolutely spectacular.

Thanks for reading all! 🙂

Welcome!

Welcome to my little corner of the internet!

Gypsy Cat 026

I would like to point out that I am no professional when it comes to beauty… But I do have a serious obsession when it comes to nail polish (and the beginnings of an obsession with makeup). On top of this, I am literally obsessed with my kitties. 3000 photos on my phone and probably 2000 of those are of my own cats and another 500 are of internet cats (can you say crazy cat lady, anyone?!)

I created this blog to share with you my daily life, be it nail polish, makeup, the crazy things my cats are doing that day, or just something random that I felt I would share with you! It will likely be more than just beauty and kitty cats, but I suppose we shall see as time passes by! This will be my little space to share with you the things that I love and the craziness that is my life!

I look forward to sharing with you! Thanks for following me!
